In 2017, SmartMom launched the Real Life SmartMom series featuring your favorite Mommy Bloggers, experts and influencers. We go to these women for advice, recipes, support and whenever Google comes up with an answer we don’t like. Let’s get to know these amazing mommas a bit better – why? Because they are SmartMoms; and smart moms talk to SmartMoms.
This week we invite Chasitie Lindsay to join the SmartMom community. Chasitie is a momprenuer, dabbling in so many different things SmartMom just had to get to know her better. She’s a DJ, a restaurant owner, a brand ambassador just to name a few things she’s currently doing. As a mom, we all know how to multitask but this mama is bringing it to a new level. Get to know the mom behind it all!
Tell us about your kids: names, ages, and fun facts.
I have a 3 year old son named Chase. He loves dinosaurs and spider man. He enjoys snacking on olives, mushrooms and vegan foods.
What are some of your favorite things about your kids?
He’s a very determined little man, and speaks exceptionally well to only be 3. He gives the best hugs and kisses, and makes me laugh several times throughout the day.
Who do you look up to for parenting advice?
I look up to other parents alongside me in the journey. Parenting is so different from when I was being raised, so it’s great to share tips and methods with other mommies my age with children in the same age range. This day in age, there are so many different styles to choose from, and we just have to share the information we learn and pick and choose what works best for us.
How would you describe what you do for a living?
I collaborate on a lifestyle blog and creative services agency with a great friend of mine, Morgan Mbadugha. We highlight spirituality, culture and serve as inspiration to a community of dope women and men of color. We also provide DJ & Photography services for special events.
How do you balance work and family?
I set my goals and work towards them one day at a time. There’s really no such thing as balance to me. For me, it’s about asking God what things do I need to prioritize for today, and let tomorrow worry about itself. Thinking about my entire work load each week can be overwhelming. I’ve just learned to set my goals, make my plans, do what I can each day, and trust God with the rest.
What does an ideal day look like for you?
Wake up 5:30am to start my day. Devotional time. Get my son up and ready for school. Drop him off and head to the gym. Complete workout, shower and breakfast. Work on my Agenda for the day which may include: marketing my businesses, emailing clients, creating flyers, prep for events, typing up contracts / invoices, business phone calls, meetings, photo shoots, editing, managing websites, and list goes on… I try to have everything complete by 4pm. If I didn’t finish something, I try to complete the tasks after my son’s bedtime. Usually from about 5-8:30pm it’s family time (dinner, homework, playtime, tv, etc.)
What were some of the biggest questions you had or challenges you faced as a first time mom?
The biggest challenge for me was breastfeeding the entire first year. Nothing has been more challenging than that thus far.
How did becoming a mom change who you are?
Becoming a parent has opened my eyes to the fact that there’s more to the world than just me. When my son was born, I learned how to care for someone more than myself. Parenting (along with Marriage) has taught me selflessness.
What are you favorite baby products you’ve discovered since becoming a parent?
I’m not really big on products, but one lifesaver for me when he was a baby, was his Boppy Pillow.
What was the most surprising or unexpected thing about becoming a mom?
How exhausting it is. People tell you that you will be tired, and you think you can prepare for it.. but there’s no tired like “mom tired.” And I don’t just mean physically. It’s a mental tiredness that drains me, because my mind and thoughts are always going… it’s never ending. Even when I’m asleep, haha.
