Starting to think about hospital costs of L&D. What all did you moms have done (induction, epidural, c-section, etc.) and how much did it end up costing before insurance paid for any? Wondering what the hospital bill looks like before insurance.

It's going to completely depend on your insurance as to how much you have to pay. I had a hospital birth with a midwife and no epidural and it cost between 15-20k. I had to pay 3k of that and then an additional 3k because my son had to be readmitted for jaundice. With my new insurance I wouldn't have had to pay a penny

I have a vaginal delievery with an epidural. But I was induce and in the hospital for 5 days. So far we owe 6500. The hospital let us set up a payment plan 850 down and then 450 a month. Our payment plan with the OBgyn is 75 a month.

I had an epidural, normal vaginal delivery & stayed 1 night. It was abt $160 for anesthesiologist, $130 for hosp stay & $160 for OB after insurance... $4k for OB... $4k for others as well before insurance.

Mine was about 27000 and I only paid $900. I was paying the highest insurance from work since I had just gotten preggers. I am glad now!!! 😊 oh and mine was vaginal with epidural. Plus they ran blood work on my baby because my water broke, and I stayed there 2 days after delivery. 3 days total.

$35,000 for C-Section and staying in the hospital for 3 days. Prior to that I was in labor for 18 hours with epidural. I pay extra for insurance with very low deductible. So I only paid about $500.

I delivered vaginally with an epidural and total that my insurance was billed, from hospital and doctors was about 23k. I only had to pay my copay of $1500. Insurances paid the rest. But that was the plan I was on. Some plans only cover 80% after deductible is met. It just depends. Call your insurance and see

Omg it was Iike 20k. Crazy how much they charge 😢😢😢 my BF saw the bill and said see that's why some women don't get a epidural it's expensive. 😂😂😂 as if it's just like taking a walk in the park.

I had Csection. Spent 5 days in the hospital. Son had jaundice also. Cost 7,800 for me and 5,900 for my son. Insurance covered my son completely. Ended up paying 2,500 of mine.

I was admitted & put on bedrest for 4 days (preeclampsia), then had a c-section & was on magnesium for 36 hours. I also had twins. We were all discharged on day 4 (I was in the hospital for 8 days total). Not a clue what it all cost, but we didn't pay anything out of pocket (my husband has really good insurance & we had met our deductible).

I had planned on birthing at a birth center and that would have been $5K (including all prenatal visits, no ultrasounds or labs though). I was transferred to the hospital though cuz my baby was breech, but delivered vaginally with forceps (no epidural) and I had a second degree laceration. We paid $800 to the hospital, only stayed 1 night, insurance covered the rest ($20k).

I find this post fascinating. I am Canadian and I paid $0. I can't believe how much it is to have a baby down in the states. How do you all afford that?

I wish I lived in Canada Terri! Our insurance didn't cover much at all we owe over 10k from when we had our baby. We don't afford it we pay what we can when we can. It sucks! I love my kids and want another but I can't afford to have another till this one is paid for. 😔
