Any mamas choose not to introduce cows milk once their LO turned one? What alternative did you choose to give instead? TIA!

My neighbor gave her daughter only almond milk!

My friend did almond milk but was recommended to make sure baby was getting enough calories from other foods as almond milk can be low in calories. Her baby stopped gaining weight for a while. I plan to use it as well, once my LO is old enough.

I'd rather not introduce cows milk or almond or coconut milk or whatever milk thats not for infant orunder 1 year i don't want to take risk. I'll wait till my baby gets 1year.

I'm giving my son rice and quinoa milk as well as cows milk in his cereal. He's turning one in a couple of weeks.

RBGH is a synthetic version of natural bovine somatotropin (BST), a hormone produced in cows’ pituitary glands. Monsanto developed the recombinant version from genetically engineered E. coli bacteria and markets it under the brand name “Posilac

.”It’s injected into cows to increase milk production, but it is banned in at least 30 other nations because of its dangers to human health, which include an increased risk for colorectal, prostate, and breast cancer by promoting conversion of normal tissue cells into cancerous ones. Non-organic dairy farms frequently have rBGH-injected cows that suffer at least 16 different adverse health conditions, including very high rates of mastitis that contaminate milk with pus and antibiotics.

If you do choose to cows milk make sure it's raw organic and not pasteurized

Hemp milk or goats milk (more easily digestible)

Cows milk has a lot of health benefits for LOs but we chose to give her organic only.

My daughter would not drink cows milk. Even to this day unless it's chocolate milk and she's 3. I used Silk milk. Original or vanilla.

We give almond and coconut milk due to food allergies

We tried organic cows milk when she turned one, but due to LO's (she's 17 months today) constipation issues since birth, we had to eventually stop. We now only give her vanilla almond milk, she absolutely refuses the unsweetened vanilla. We still give her some other dairy products but we have to be really careful on how much she gets.

I'm dealing with this now too. LO will be 1 in a few weeks and I just think cow's milk is gross, always have. Plus I have a hard time believing human babies NEED an animal's milk for proper development. Still researching but I think we'll do almond milk and focus on calcium-rich foods (leafy greens, salmon, etc.)

Thanks for all the input mamas! McKay, I kinda feel the same way about giving cow's milk, and she's still BF'ing, so I don't see it as super necessary. She's pretty petite (about 18lbs) so I'll be curious as to what her ped recommends. I love his approach to his practice, he always gives advice based on evidence-based research.
