The first year of your baby’s life is full of milestones. Here, we’ve compiled some of the top questions and answers from the SmartMom app about parenting a 9 month old. If you have questions of your own, download the app and ask away! 9 months is a huge milestone! Your baby is probably grabbing everything and trying to stand up, putting small objects in his mouth, and probably beginning to get his first tooth. This can cause pain and discomfort. For tips on soothing teething babies, check out this article. This is a good time to practice self-feeding. Though it can be messy, having your baby pick up small foods (like cheerios) with his fingers and feed himself is a great way to improve fine motor skills. At 9 months, you can also begin teaching sign language. Your baby has an increased awareness of what he needs or wants, and teaching him sign language gives him a chance to communicate that to you.

Need any and all help. My son just turned 9 months, I currently have 1100 bags of frozen breastmilk in 3 freezers. I have weaned myself to pumping once a day and decided Saturday night to stop. It has not even been 48 hours and you can bounce a quarter off my boobs, it hurts to breath and I have indentations in my skin from my bra!!!! HELP!! Any ideas I am so willing to try 🙁

I’ve heard to apply cabbage leaves to the breast

Pump just enough to relieve engorgement then stop. It’ll take a little while but your supply will stop 🙂

Warm showers will help with the pain, wear a sports bra (makes it so u don’t produce any more), take Benadryl (at night so u don’t fall asleep during the day lol) it dries u up. That’s what I did after I quit with my daughter 🙂 also warm towels on breasts help pain too

I tried that last week and I would leak through pads and padded bra and shirt!!! If I take my bra off they are going to start squirting everywhere!!!! Lol

Freeze cabbage leafs and put them in your bra. Use an old bra because it will pretty much ruin them.

I did the tight sports bra thing and it helped…turned my boobs like square for a brief time but it helped lol. Eventually it went away. I’m afraid time is all that will take it away. Sorry mamma! 😔

Put cold cabbage leaves in your bra and change them out when they wilt (doesn’t take long) it helps with the pain plus it has enzymes that naturally dry you up

Send your supply my way ! I wish I could produce that much extra 😩 I go back to work next month and I don’t have that much saved up yet

I got lucky. I have already donated 200 bags to our NICU so they can pasteurize it and send it out to other NICU’s. These cabbage leafs can not freeze fast enough lol.

Hang over the sink and just press on the sides. Just do it long enough to release the pressure. Eventually they will dry up.

Cabbage cold no hot stuff here unless you need it; it will cause you to leak and that will create more milk. sports bra cold even iced cabbage you can do this it is almost over! Take a breath vent here if you need to. Bye bye booby juice!!

Just express enough to alleviate some pain but not too much that It would produce more… I didn’t stop cold turkey so mine wasn’t painful but I know that helped sometimes when I got really full. And WOW I wish I could of pumped that much!!! Good for you

I thought I had a normal supply until I pumped at work one day and brought the milk out in my freezer bags and a co worker was shocked how much I pumped. Once he turned 3 months I exclusively pumped and gave him a bottle. As much as pumping sucks it’s so worth it.
Ashley C 3 likes
I have 5 bottles in my freezer. 5. Five. FIVE. WTF. How did you do that?!? What are you eating/drinking? Or are you just a freak of nature?! SHOW ME YOUR WAYS.

I’m with Ashley! I go back to work in 2 weeks and have 15 bags in my freezer. I’m exclusively pumping as well but I’m just barely making enough to feed him, much less store any away! Extra bummer for me, I can’t take anything with fenugreek in it.
Jessica F 4 likes
I took fenugreek the first month, drank a crap load of water, ate every two hours and made sure I had protein, leafy veggies. I have celiac’s so not sure if not eating gluten has anything to do with it and I stuck to a strict 4 hour schedule. Everywhere I went my pump was with me lol and was not afraid to ask someone where I could go and pump and there were plenty of times I pumped in the car.
Ashley C 1 like
Wow. That’s just amazing. The celiac’s bit is interesting, I’ll have to do some research and see if gluten affects natural production! Thanks for sharing!

I co slept till 7 months, and then transferred. I sleep trained-and it was the hardest but best thing I ever did for both of us, and my fiancé and I. Do it when you’re ready, or you’re baby will sense you aren’t and it’ll be a harder transition-however I will tell you-the older they get the harder it will be on both of you to make the switch. I mean A LOT harder. So do it when you’re ready…but keep that In mind.

Safer than crib sleeping The Consumer Product Safety Commission published data that described infant fatalities in adult beds. These same data, however, showed more than 3 times as many crib related infant fatalities compared to adult bed accidents 15. Another recent large study concluded that bed sharing did NOT increase the risk of SIDS, unless the mom was a smoker or abused alcohol 16.

I don’t like co-sleeping because it’s hard for me to fall asleep thinking g I might roll on too of them, and I don’t like having feet in my face. If you choose to co-sleep there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. You have to do what you believe is best for you and baby. I’ve had to sleep with my 3 year old (of course I didn’t sleep well) because it was the only way to get him to sleep. No one should make you feel bad for doing what you need/want to do.

You can add a bit of mineral oil to her water. My daughter has the same problem as an infant and we mixed juice and water or did mineral oil and water. Also increase veggies and fruits but stay away from binding fruits like apples and bananas. Good luck!

Don’t stop giving solids. Their bodies are still adjusting to digesting something other than BM or formula. If you stop and then start again it will be exactly the same outcome. Stay away from things that constipate and give more things that will help regulate them. P foods like pears, prunes, peas, peaches. Water and blueberries can also help. If it’s really bad then you’ll probably need to use a qtip with some vasaline less than a cm in their bum and massage around in a circle.

Maybe he has a yeast infection? Try changing his diapers as well.. He could have developed an allergy to something in them.. Let him air out as much as possible, and keep him wiped good.

I use honest co diapers and hasn’t come back! Good luck!

Hi mamas. I have a question! My daughter is 9 months old and I’m wondering if it’s too early to introduce her to almond milk? I’m still breast feeding and I plan to continue up till at least a year, so about four more months! But I’m so tired and it would be nice to maybe replace one feeding with a bottle.. I have an appointment tomorrow with her pediatrician tomorrow so I’ll ask and get more info. I’m just up late thinking about how tired I am. LOL. Breast feeding is exhausting.
My N 0 likes
She’s going to say no. Almond milk is nowhere near breast milk or homo milk. Like..why? Of all things almond milk? Why almond milk? your baby needs fat and nutrition.. Not almond milk.

It’s definitely too early; wait at least a year and then test a couple teaspoons for any allergic reactions. Every couple days increase the amount. Check with your Dr. and maybe have an EPI pen on hand when experimenting with nuts.

You don’t think it’s asinine that someone would consider replacing milk with nut juice? People aren’t born vegans, milk is essential for ALL mammals

Well research shows that we are the only mammal that drinks another animals milk and that it’s not necessary to do so , so no I do not think its asinine as you would say. We do not NEED cows milk or any other animal for that matter. But I do think she has the right to ask a question without remarks making her feel bad. That’s not what this app is for

I don’t want this to turn into the great debate over milk. We all have the right to choose what we think is best. However we don’t have the right to make a snive comments and call names. just because you don’t agree. We re here to support each other

Also, there are lots of other mammals that drink another animals milk. They’re the smart ones that know how to survive when they can’t get it from their mother.

Well said shawna. Thank you!! If I want to give my daughter almond, hemp, whatever milk that’s my decision to make as her parent. Like shawna said, we don’t need cows milk. Clearly, nutrition come first and I would never put my daughter in a position where she isn’t getting enough. I chose to breastfeed because in my opinion it was the best way to go. I’m just exploring my options right now. No need to be rude or attack me or any one else. You have every right to believe in what you want and

Do what you feel is best for your own child. I’m not judging you or insulting you because of it. It’s just disgusting to be that way. Thank you everyone for your input and opinion, good or bad. I appreciate the feedback and I’m still researching more and exploring what I feel is best for my sweet girl. 💕

Uuuh. Ya ok then. Great response lol Grecia. No problem. Usually I keep my mouth shut but this one I couldn’t. Not only because it was un fair, But also uneducated. I have been vegan and living more natural lifestyle for over 20 yrs and am very educated on nutritional info. Most people have no clue but have rude comments. Anywho your question was a good one hope the other comments helped. Look into hemp milk. Has all the fat and nutrients baby needs until you switch to almond

I know this May sound bad but I wish my daughter could watch tv for maybe 20 minutes! Just so I could go to the bathroom or wash the dishes. She will watch the intro to a show and be excited and that’s it. If someone is playing with her or she is by herself she is screaming. What show can your LO watch? She’s 9 months. We’ve tried almost every show ?

Exersaucer, or toys in his crib/playpen keep my LO entertained for about 20min while I work. Also, I set him in the highchair while I do dishes. He has fun playing with toys and watching me work.

On dish network there is a channel called the baby channel. It’s number 823 I believe. My son used to watch it a lot when he was younger. Now that he is walking he doesn’t watch tv at all. No matter what show is on.

My sons loves the ones we were raised on, PB&J Otter, Bear in the Big Blue House, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh or the Book of Pooh. Mainly because those shows have a lot of songs and dancing to hold their attention

9 months is a little early to be interested in tv. Honestly, they just kind of have to get used to playing by them self from time to time. Just ride out the fit until then.

Bubble guppies and octonauts! Both in treehouse on demand. Those are her two faves but I put her in her exersaucer, so if she loses interest she can at least occupy herself for a few minutes.

Emma’s the same way. She loves backyardigans. Screams and dances when the intro starts. And then doesn’t want to watch it anymore.

Mickey Mouse clubhouse and the Tinkerbell movies on Netflix. My LO is 14 months old, she won’t watch the whole tinkerbell movie but she gets into it long enough for me to get some stuff done around the house

Nope! I NEVER have had the flu or get sick! Neither has my husband, so our son will not get the flu shot! We have strong immunity systems, I have faith that my son has the same.

2 out of 3 of my kids had the flu shot including myself. My 3 year old didn’t have his because he was sick. My 9 year old and I both got sick from the shot so now I’m debating if it’s worth giving it to my son

My sons gonna get his but last time I got one I got really sick but that was the only time I ever got the flu cuz of high immunities. My husband is definitely getting one because he gets sick so easy.
