At 6 months my son was 17lbs ( he is in the 50%), my daughters were 14-15lbs at 6 months. And my nephew at 6 months was 22lbs. My nephew was definitely a big boy but now he is 1 1/2 and has thinned out a lot now that he is walking. If your pediatrition isn’t concerned than don’t worry about her. She looks totally normal to me! Everyone says my son looks big for his age too which actually confuses me because he is only 50 percentile according to the doctors).

Hi moms! I was wondering if any of you have tried the ” bumbo” seat and what you think of it, I’ve heard a lot of great things and see many people using it but I wanted to make sure before I went out and bought one and how old does baby have to be to use it my little is 5 months now. Thank you!

Hi! We loved ours! We started around 4 months and he would just sit there and love it ! eventually he couldn’t sit in it anymore cuz he had some chunk legs haha so we got a Boon Highchair and he still uses it at 16 months ! ☀️

Brittany R 1 likes

My daughter and the children I nanny for love it… And his age is perfect for it …

Elise M 1 likes

I loved mine I’d say it’s worth the investment but it’s also worth checking second hand stores or with friends ( I used a friends who was done with kids) but I would have bought one

N 0 likes

I would get the mamas & papas brand instead. It has bigger thigh openings and a removable insert that you can take out as baby grows.

Christine 1 likes

You can use one as soon as your LO has established good control over her neck. I had one and it was useful for about a month then it was useless. If you decide to try one, I highly suggest you get a used one. They’re so expensive when you buy brand new and from my experience they are barely used.

Aprilbaby 0 likes

My LOs thighs were too chunky to fit in it by the time I got one. Look at the boppy booster seat too. It is basically the same thing but lasts much longer for the baby getting bigger. It also collapses and is great to take on trips or to restaurants.

Shannon M 1 likes

I buy them for everyone I think they are wonderful! They are great!

Laura W 1 likes

My sons not a fan.

Taryn C 1 likes

Didn’t like it. Leg gaps are too small. I got the boppy one which is way better and can connect to chairs and has a cushion insert

Kim G 1 likes

My first loved it but we are having issues with my youngest fitting in the seat..the leg spaces are way too small for her chunky thighs : )

Desiree M 1 likes

She could use it now my baby loved it. She started sitting it in at 3 months old.

Lauren C 1 likes

The leg gaps are definitely small. We bought one and returned it because he literally got stuck. They have one called the mega seat though that’s for chunkier legs and it’s amazing! My son is 1 and we still use it. And he’s in the 99% so he’s a big boy!! I use it daily!!

Nyri G 1 likes

It was great for us but for a very short time. It got too tight quickly. I’d say we used it for 1-2 months.

Caitlyn S 1 likes

I liked mine but def shop second hand if your not opposed to it. There’s nothing on it to go bad really and they are easy to clean

Angie R 1 likes

Not worth it. My girl is 6 months and never uses it. Not a lot of room for chunky thighed babies either.

Melissa B 1 likes

I like mine but my LO is skinny so her legs still fit, I’d buy second hand if you can

Anna L 2 likes

We only used it for a month or so but it was great just before my baby learned to sit up on his own! It allowed him to see the world from different perspective-upright! Definitely borrow from a friend or buy second hand!

Taylor F 1 likes

We use ours a ton but got the Mama and Papas one instead because it has a removable insert so the chair grows with her.

Lauren P 1 likes

My baby loves it

Shannon B 1 likes

We started using it at 3 months but by then, his chubby little thighs barely fit.

Sarina W 1 likes

Had the bumbo and DS was in and out of it so fast I’m glad I bought it from a friend. I don’t think it’s worth buying full price.

Elizabeth L 1 like

Thank you so much for your advice everyone it was very helpful, I’m defiantly going to buy one second hand and luckily my little one has super skinny thighs so I think she will be fine as long as she likes it..:)

Lindsy H 1 likes

Loved ours, used it mostly after she learned to sit up tho

MamaBear 1 likes

We’ve been using ours for a couple weeks now and my son is 5 1/2 weeks

Perfectly M 1 likes

It’s uncomfortable and dangerous. I recommend against it strongly. There’s this new thing out that’s kinda like a super small blow up pool but holds baby in a more comfortable way and is big enough baby can’t fly out. My 18mo loves to sit on bumbo but before now it was useless. It hurt her hips a lot an left them red and kinda swollen after only half an hour. Look on Google for bumbo alternatives. Good luck 🙂

This is a really random question…When did you stop washing your baby’s clothes in dreft or other baby/sensitive laundry detergent and start washing with regular detergent? My LO is almost 5 months old and I still wash with dreft but I was just curious when it’s ok to start washing with regular detergent.

Show Answers

Linsi M 1 like

As soon as I finished the first bottle of Dreft I switched to All free & clear (which I then used on everyone’s laundry)

Tiziana B 1 like

I did use regular detergent from day 1 and my LO never had an issue.

Megan H 0 likes

Honestly as soon as I ran out of the first dreft bottle I used regular detergent. My son only showed signs of irration when he was 1-2 months old. After that he seemed less sensitive.

Karrine D 0 likes

You can switch anytime but just make sure baby’s skin isn’t irritated

I have always washed my husbands and mine with all free and clear so when baby was born we continued with that. I would recommend using anything free and clear until at least 1 to make sure they aren’t too sensitive to others

Alexandria J 0 likes

Becky G 0 likes

I have always used regular laundry detergent with LO’s clothes, even the clothes I got from his baby shower! Never had an issue. 🙂

Sara D 0 likes

I used it until she was almost 3 because she has sensitive skin. Now I use All Free & Clear because the Dreft won’t get the stains out.

Marianne M 0 likes

I started using All free & clear when my dd was born. I’m thinking about switching though (now 16 months). I really miss the fresh clothes smell that was my reward for doing laundry

Tsaiann ( 0 likes

Dreft or no dreft ur baby will be fine mine didn’t get any allergic reaction to any detergents praise God but if u like dreft y stop

Aprilbaby 0 likes

I never did. From day 1 I have been washing in our regular detergent. I make my own laundry detergent. But I decided not to use the speciality detergents for my LO unless I found he had a reaction and needed it. So far so good I have even used fabric softener on some of his and he’s fine. 6 months old by the way

Sara 0 likes

I was hard core about dreft with my first but never used anything special with my 2nd. Never noticed a difference

Megan B 0 likes

Never used dreft really my daughter never had any issues with tide or homemade

Ruth D 0 likes

I still use dreft to this day with my daughters clothes and she’s 3 1/2. She has really sensitive skin thigh.

I’m dealing with post partum depression, and my anxiety is the worst it’s ever been. My fiancé works constantly, and I stay home with our daughter. I was so happy, and then out of no where when I was 5 months pp, the baby blues hit hard. I feel so disappointed. I thought I was in the clear, but apparently it can appear anywhere in the first year. I’m in between insurance, so I am waiting to be able to afford the medication I need. As of now this sucks though. Any other Momas been thru this?

Yes! I have a terrible case of anxiety to the point that I shake and get light headed and end up lashing out at people for no apparent reason. When that happens, I walk away from my daughter because I never want her to see me that way. (She’s 2) trust me, you aren’t the only one who’s going through it I’m sure a lot of moms are going through it, maybe not serious anxiety but I’m sure we all have fear for the future of our child right?

Heather S 1 like

I get the baby blues, it’s gotten better because my niece just graduated high school and she’s been helping me. I have twins, there was a period of time where I was always home alone with them. It was hard, I felt kind of helpless. Once I figured out my routine and started getting out of the house more I felt better.

Hang in there momma, I’m sure things will get better soon! Life works in mysterious ways. 😁😚

I have bipolar and anxiety to begin with and as a result have struggled after both kiddos. I’m a SAHM too. The other day I had to just walk away, go in the baby’s room and cry, while she was crying in the living room and our son talked to me under the door. I’m on meds but they’re not especially helpful. I finally see psych next week. Outside of meds I don’t have any great suggestions besides praying. It’s a scary place to be in but know you aren’t alone! Hugs!

Robin C 1 likes

I am always home alone with my daughter, and I don’t drive. It’s hard to go from having a booming social life, to have no life what so ever. Not even a life with my fiancé. It’s hard. Hopefully once I get my medicine, and can start getting out it will get easier. I do always know that when things get really hard, a good part is right around the corner. I’ve been dealing with PTSD and anxiety/depression since I was 14. So I’ve learned a thing or 2 from it.

I went through post partum. It can be scary. If you are bottle feeding, you can take St Johns Wort. It’s a vitamin that helps w depression. If you are nursing, you can try vitamin B. It helps to stabilize your mood. If anything gets worse and you are afraid, please call someone for help.

Eileen C 0 like

Try to keep your self busy and stay positive. If the baby cries and you feel anxious put the baby down in a safe place, and walk away. Call a friend or mom to come help. It helps too to be around family and friends

I had it since my baby was born til he was 7 months. I used to cry when I was alone with him for no reason. I had to leave work many times because I felt extremely sad outta nowhere. When I started drinking vitamins and working out it got better. Now he’s my happiness. If you think about things they get worse. Just think in the present and be thankful. It will all work out 🙂

Try just a store bought vitamin D supplement, it will help with your serotonin levels a bit. Try to get out in the sun. Take a 30 minute walk, with or without baby. I went through it at 3 months pp, and though I was on antidepressants for a while I hated them and did some research and went to those for alternative options. Also, St. John’s Wort is a natural antidepressant that you can buy and sprouts or any of the all natural stores like that. I’ve heard great things. Good luck, hang in there

It’s hard when your husband works so much. My husband is a roughneck, and we see him for two days every seven days. At about three months, I did experience some anxiety. Partly from missing my hubby and the other from just being plain exhausted. Nursing was hard with my second and we had to work at it. I tried to keep my mind off of things and stay busy! I joined my local Le Leche League group, which helped immensely! Try to make time to get out of the house too, with or without the kiddos.

Summer J 0 likes

Chelsea is right on about the vitamin D!! I had horrible PP anxiety with my first. Went in and did blood work and my vitamin D levels were dangerously low. (Which can cause depression/anxiety) Had to get a prescription for a high dosage for a few mths. Made a huge difference. Postpartum thyroid issues can also affect your hormones and moods. Get a physical when you can and make sure your body is firing on all cylinders!

Melanie S 0 likes

You can get a magnesium supplement to help ease part of your anxiety. They’re a a powder called calm (i think) at GNC. It actually helps a bit! I’m so sorry you’re going through this, anxiety is terrible. Make sure you focus on your breathing when it gets bad. Hope you get better soon!

No more than 500 micrograms is what my doc said and it helps. And if u can go for a walk. That helps too!!

Get out of the house once a day. Be around adults. I think the enormity of the situation(which is amazing, but it can seem never ending & scary at 5mo pp) hits you after the excitement & attention goes away. All of a sudden the drop ins to take a look at the new baby stop. It’s a weird thing to deal with. Have something to look forward to daily. A walk, mommy group(MOPS is a good one), go to a coffee shop & stay through your coffee, a book store, date night with your hubby! With or without baby.

It is very important and also healty, as for your baby a it is for you to bf untill 1yo. No formula has all those “goodies” that mother’s milk has! Search the internet a little and see for yourself all the qualities milk has and all the bennefits of bf.

I breastfed my son until he was 11 months old. You can go all the way to a year.

Under my sons neck he has a bad rash. He’s 5 months old and teething. He likes to take the frozen thee thing rings and set them on the rash. He doesn’t like anyone touching it, or even trying to lift his neck up to look at it. When it’s reall sore he lets me put a wet rag on it. My pediatrician said to leave it alone, that it will go away on its own. But he’s had if for 2 months now. Is there anything I can put on it?

Try to keep it dry

Wet rags will make it worst! That kinds of rash needs to stay as dry as possible. Get a fragrance free baby powder.. Apply as needed,. If it’s starting to get sore/legion looking, you may need antibiotics. If the doc is saying leave it alone, then leave it. But from my experience (3 LOs), DRY, DRY, DRY!!

Try diaper rash cream or baby powder I’m surprised his doctor has not giving you any advice now it’s been 2 months with it I would mention it does hurt baby with him. Also try not to put on shirts that touch that area and rub on it. Also try not washing it with a rag again the rubbing irritates it more just pour water on it during bath time and skip soap on that area .

I know someone that their baby had a rash from milk and such getting there. Keep it dry and she put Desitin on it. She said it helped clear it up. I don’t have any personal experience with it though. Hope it gets better!

I used diaper rash cream & it worked. Not sure if its recommended but it worked for my little one for his neck rash. On organic note you can bathe him in oatmeal soaked water it tends to soothe the rash.

I had that same problem with my little guy. Red with a funky smell. Wash it with an antibacterial soap, safeguard bar soap is awesome for this. Dry it with a blow dryer on the cool setting. You can put 1% hydrocortisone ointment on it after it’s dry. Me pedi prescribed mupirocen. It is an antibiotic ointment. Cleared it up quick. Keeping it clean and dry will help a ton.

This happens to my LO all the time. She’s teething so she’s always drooling and it gets in her neck crease. I give her a bath every other night and wash it. Then I make sure it’s completely dry and put baby powder on it.

Deep it clean and dry. It could be a bit of a yeast infection. Coconut oil would help.

I second the baby powder. Keep it nice and dry. My daughter always tends to get rashes. Not once has diaper rash cream helped us either (her skin is sensitive) but baby powder works like a charm.

Baby powder to keep it dry

Keep it dry clean it then put baby powder on it or if that doesn’t seem to help try aquaphor or hydrocortisone cream

Melanie K 0 likes

My LO got that a few times and it gets stinky. After bath, dry it good. I used aquaphor and it went away or baby powder. Both helped

Baby powder, it will soak up the moisture, and help relieve the pain

I had that same problem with my daughter, I would wash it and put renew lotion on it and tried butt paste and that didn’t work either. I complained enough that they finally looked looked at it and knew that I had tried everything and said that it was most likely a yeasty problem from when they drink milk, if it runs down their face and gets in the crease it builds yeast in there and causes the infection. Worth a try to look into it! I hope this helps!

When my son started getting a rash under his neck from all the build up of slobber, milk n spit up I just wash it real good n would run a little bit of coconut oil on it. Clearsd up in 2-3 days

Baby powder and I give mine lots of tummy time that way she’s picking up her head and her neck stays dry!

It’s probably yeast infection keep it clean n dry don’t put anythin on it. Buttwipes n a dry towel of some kind pat dry don’t wipe it hurts them worse good luck!

One of my daughters got like that occasionally. The pediatrician just told me to wash & dry it & put a thin layer of hydrocortisone on it.

Both my LOs got this – yeast infection. Take to dr for a prescription cream, will clear it right up.

My baby is 5 months old today. She was born with lots of hair and now it’s all falling out. Is this normal? Could it be the formula causing it? Worried mom please help!

Do you mean just bald patches? Bc I know my son had some from rolling and just rubbing his head trying to move

Mahmooda C 0 likes

Yes I had the experience as the comment posted, especially if they don’t like a lot of tummy time, then you will find that baby will have some hair loss from rolling around and giving preference to one side…if this doesn’t sound like the case and your very concerned I would say call the pediatrician. Hope all is fine though.

My son had a ton of hair when he was born. Black straight hair. It all fell out and was replaced with golden blonde waves. Still has thin hair now. He’s 14 mo and I keep asking him when he’s going to get more hair.

Very normal. My son is 5mo and was born with a head of hair. He lost, basically, all of it and it’s now coming back. My cousins baby went completely bald and it all came back. Don’t worry 🙂

Yes it’s normal. My baby was born with thick long hair, needed a haircut when he was born. Around 3 months, his hair was thinning noticeably. It did last for a few months but now his hair is thicker. My son was born with black hair and now he has brown hair. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

The hair will fall until 6-7 months old then will start to grow again! Is most because they are lay down to much and the rubbing with the bed or the pillow make it fall. When they start being more active the hair stay! You will see!

Totally normal

This happened with all 4 of mine. They were born with dark hair and when it fell out it grew in blond.my family doctor is an ob and has been for a long time. So he sees baby’s every and has never mentioned anything wrong with it. So there’s nothing to worry about your baby is completely healthy. 🙂

How much did your baby’s weigh at 5 months? My son will be 5 months on the 18th and he weighs 15lbs 12oz and my mother in law won’t let it go she ALWAYS says how big he is and how he weighs to much!!!! OMFG I’m sooooo annoyed!!!! His dr said the average 5 month old should be around 16lbs for a boy. I’m sooo frustrated! Should I say something ?
